Yes! A Hat-trick Achieved by Leith Athletes.

There were some great performances from Leith Athletes this Sunday 9 October at the Hill Free Half and Ten Km races out at Outram.

Neale McLanachan won the Open Men's 10 km race in 33 mins 53 secs.

Kirsty Morris followed his example by achieving first place in the Open Women's 10km with a time of 38 mins 30 secs.

Jennifer Bentley continued the Leith onslaught with a great win in the Masters Women's 35 grade running it in 43 mins 43 secs.

Steve Smith continuing the great form he displayed in the National Road Relays nearly made it four wins for Leith with a plucky second place in the Masters Men's 50 grade in the Half-Marathon finishing with a time of 1 hour 24 mins 30 secs.

 

LEITH HARRIER'S REPORT FOR THE STAR FOR - Sat 24 September

Patrons Doug Milne and Dr Norrie Jefferson hosted club members at the runs and recreational walks from Chingford Park on Saturday. The club photo session went well with a good turnout. The packs headed out into ideal, warm and sunny weather conditions.
Andrew Lonie led the fast pack up to Signal Hill via Ravensbourne before returning to the club via North Road. Meredith Molloy took the medium pack for a tour of Ross Creek, Leith Valley. Jill Alexander showed her pace while young new member Eric discovered how tough some of these runs could be.
Cate Shields led the medium slow pack to Woodhaugh Gardens, Ross Creek, and Islay Road and returned via Malvern Street. Greg Johnston decided that the Botanical Gardens was the place for the slow pack, which returned via Signal Hill Road. The walkers drove to Pinehill and from there they explored Patmos Avenue and Leith Valley.

Leith Men's No 1 Team grabs third place in Peninsula Relay 2005

LEITH HARRIER'S REPORT FOR THE STAR FOR - Sat 17 September
Leith Men's No. 1 team consisting of Andrew Lonie (15:25 fastest time), Andrew Perry (12:15), Neale McLanachan (15:54), Ian Thomas (21:06), Mark O'Donnell (11:06), Conor Delahunty (17:15), Allan Carman (27:07) and Alan Funnell (13:14) ran brilliantly to secure third place and second fastest time (2:13:22) on the Peninsula Relay course.
The next Leith team to cross the line was the Leith Men's No 2 team with David Rush (16:54) giving the team a great start on the first lap, Richard Hendry (22:01) running a great downhill on lap 4 and Rod McCall (13:31) bringing the team home in 8th position.
Lorne Singer (17:07) with a great first lap spearheaded the Leith Men's No 3 team to 12th Position. Brooke Carman (22:15, 4th Lap) anchored the Women's No 1 to 14th Position. Leith Women's No 2 team secured 21st Position while the composite team ran well despite last minute withdrawals.

LEITH HARRIER'S REPORT FOR THE STAR FOR - Sat 10 September
Leith runners and recreational walkers enjoyed a great Saturday afternoon's exercise from Chingford Park in ideal sunny and mild weather conditions.
The fast pack with Brooke Carman and Richard Hendry leading the way headed out to Sawyers Bay via North Road, up the Graham's Bush Track to return via North Road.
The medium slow pack led by Helen Hendry and the slow pack lead by Greg Johnston followed the fast pack up North Road, but turned off to run up Signal Hill amid much moaning from Bill Kenny. The slow pack returned to Chingford Park via Dalmeny Street.
Grant McDougall led the medium pack to Ross Creek, Highgate and Newington Avenue before returning via George Street. Alan Funnell and Ron McClay-Barnes went for a shorter run to rest for the next day's marathon.
The recreational walkers headed out for a tour of Ross Creek before returning via North East Valley Road.

Kirsty Morris wins Junior Women Clyde/Alexandra Roadrace held on Saturday 27 August 2005

Extract from Star report for Sat 27 Aug 05
In a fine tune up for the National Road Championships, Andrew Lonie (32:53) was first Leith runner home finishing 4th (6th overall) in the Open Men's 10 km Clyde to Alexandra Road Race on Saturday. Next Leith Open Man and making a comeback was Graig Grant 7th (11th overall) followed by Neale McLanachan 8th (12th overall).
Continuing her winning ways, Kirsty Morris (39:04) won the Junior Women's 10 km title. Getting back to his best, Brian Pascoe had a great run to finish second (13th overall) in the Veteran Men's grade in 34:19.
Also featuring were Richard Hendry (34:59) 4th Veteran Men, Marc Boulle (37:23) 4th Masters Men. Helen Hendry and Clare Pascoe were the first Leith runners home in the Veteran Women and Masters Women races respectively. Meredith Molloy was Leith's first runner to finish in the Open Women's race. Evergreens, Bill Kenny and Jim Flynn had good runs.

There were some great performances from Leith Athletes on Sunday 9 October at the Hill Free Half-Marathon and 10 Km at Outram. Neale McLanachan won the Open Men's 10 km race in 33:53. Kirsty Morris followed his example by achieving first place in the Open Women's 10km with a time of 38:30.
Jennifer Bentley continued the Leith onslaught with a great win in the Masters Women's 35 grade running it in 43:43.
Steve Smith continuing the great form he displayed in the National Road Relays nearly made it four wins for Leith with a plucky second place in the Masters Men's 50 grade in the Half-Marathon finishing with a time of 1 hour 24mins 30secs.
The club also held its winter windup and presentations on Sunday, which went very well with everyone enjoying the end of season celebrations.

LEITH HARRIER'S REPORT FOR THE STAR FOR - Sat 3 September
Leith and Ariki enjoyed combined runs and recreational walks from the Chingford Park Clubrooms on Saturday. The fast pack led by Andrew Perry went up to the Organ Pipes via Bethune's Gully and returned down North Road. Kirsty Morris led the medium pack, which followed the same route as the fast pack.
Clare Pascoe led the medium slow pack on an interesting route around the Chingford Park tracks before heading out to the Gardens via the Quarry to return via Opoho Road.
Christine Leith took the slow pack out to Ross Creek for a circuit of the dam before returning to the club. The large group of recreational walkers enjoyed a walk around the Quarry before some explored the Opoho area.
Andrew Lonie was Leith's sole representative at the National Road Champs in Feilding on Saturday where he finished in 27th position with a time of 34 min 7 sec.

 

Otago 10 km Road Championships

Great stuff again from Leith Athletes in the Otago Road Championships held on Saturday 20 August 2005.

Kirsty Morris (19:25) won the Junior Women's 5000m title at the Otago Road Championships on Saturday. The team of Morris, Laura Scoones and Emily Scoones also took the team's title.


Jill Alexander (19:45) ran a gutsy race to hold on for second place in the Masters Women 5km event. Andrew Perry (17:42) finished second in the Open 5km event.


Marc Boulle (38:30) was well beaten into second place in the Master's Men's 50 event while Steve Skilling (36:19) achieved fastest time in the 10km Open Handicap race.

Brian Pascoe was the first Leith Master Men's 40 athlete home in a time of 35:53 to finish in fourth place in this grade.


An inform Ian Thomas was first Leith runner home in the Senior Men's 10km followed by the ever improving Luke Kendrick. The Senior Men's team narrowly missed winning the Nickells Cup (men's aggregate in the Port Road Race and Otago Road Championships) by just one point with 53 points to Ariki's 52.
