Leith Lovelock Trials 2007 Results

(The race reports are above each race result)

The going was a bit soft and wet due to the lack of sun during the week. The slipperiest section was on the far corner where a mud patch developed and caused some runners to take extra care. The weather was overcast and cold, with just a very slight breeze.

Race Four

Open Men
One Mile (1609m)

John Winsbury, as he had done in the Three Peaks the weekend before,
took the race to the opposition and conditions. Leading from start to finish
in a marvelous display of form running to outlast a determined Neale
McLanachan in a thrilling finish with just one second to spare.
Andrew Lonie kept in contact but was outpaced in the end to finish third..

Men’s 19 and Under
One mile (1609m)

In the Senior Men's Race, junior runner William Sew Hoy tried to stay
with the leading bunch for one and a half laps.
However, the pace proved too much to sustain and he settled for a more
sedate pace with two laps to go, losing ground to the senior athletes.
He did well to better his time from last year by 5 seconds and seems
destined to improve as the winter season progresses.

Race Five

Masters Men’s 35+
One Mile (1609m)

Glen Ferguson led from start to finish for a convincing victory in Masters Men's 35+ Race.
Steve Skilling did not make much impression on him, but seemed to be content to cruise
into second place. Alan Funnell and a fast finishing Greg Cooke were closing in on Skilling but
he managed to hold them out.

Masters Men’s 50+
One Mile (1609m)

In the same race, Marc Boulle and the new man in the Masters Men's 50 grade and
pretender to the throne, Gerald Scoones, fought it out for the title.
However, Scoones just couldn't close the gap at the end and had to settle for second
place behind Boulle. Senior Master Men's 50 runner, Graham Anderson, ran well to
duck under 6 minutes.
