OTAGO CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Incorporating Leith Cross Country Championships.

The 2006 Otago Cross Country Championship races were held on Saturday 15 July 2006 at Waikouaiti Race with the first race commencing at 12 noon.

Results also include the Leith XC Championships positions.

EVENT 1: 3000 METRES                        Start 12.00 pm

Start clockwise.  Once up the hill.

First 3 to count for teams.

GIRLS 14 & UNDER

Sarah Thomas had a good run in winning the Girls 14 and Under race.

EVENT 2: 1500 METRES                   Start 12.02 pm

Start clockwise.  Once up the hill.  Turn left towards finish line on entering the racecourse. Separate results, separate teams races, first 3 to count.

GIRLS 12 & UNDER

EVENT 3: 4000 METRES                        Start 12.25 pm

Start anticlockwise.  Once up the hill.

Separate results, separate teams races, first 3 to count

OPEN 4000 (no teams race or medals for this race)

Richard Hendry ran a solid race to win the open race for unregistered runners in a good time of 15:17.

EVENT 4: 6000 METRES                        Start 12.45 pm

Start clockwise.  Twice up the hill.

MASTERS WOMEN 35+

Tracey Bransgrove ran well to finish in an excellent second position in 25 mins and 12 seconds to lead the Leith team of Bransgrove, Jan Coffey and Cindy Bradburn to victory in the teams event with 13 points.

MASTERS WOMEN 45+

EVENT 5: 8000 METRES                        Start 1.00 pm

Start clockwise.  Three times up the hill.

MASTERS MEN 35+

Glen Ferguson ran exceptionally well to win this highly competitive race in a fast time of 28 minutes 19 seconds. Alan Funnell continued to impress in this race with a fifth place in 28 minutes 52 seconds to attain a place in the Athletics Otago Masters Team for the National Cross Country Championships in Stratford, Taranaki.

The Leith team of Ferguson, Funnell and Ian Thomas won the 3 person team event with 12 points.

MASTERS MEN 50+

The Leith team of Marc Boulle, Ed Stevens and Graham Anderson won the teams event with 15 points, just one point ahead of Ariki.

SENIOR MEN

Returning from a bout of flu took some of the edge off Neale McLanachan's fitness but he produced a solid gutsy run to finish in third place in 41 minutes 22 seconds. Andrew Lonie backed up with a good 8th position in 43 minutes 39 seconds. Neale McLanachan also won the Leith sealed handicap set by Master Handicapper Jim Flynn. Jim had Neale set to do a time of 42 minutes while he had Andrew set to do a time of 43 minutes 11 seconds.
