Pros and cons for concept of Leith-Hill City merger, as discussed between Andrew Lonie and Oliver O’Sullivan:

Pros:

* Stronger teams at national and local relays, especially in the Senior Men and Women grades.
* Local events organised by each club could be further developed by combining resources of both clubs.
* There are already strong links between the clubs - e.g. Chris Sole's sessions, supportive culture between athletes from each club, some participation in each other's club events has already occurred.
* Strength in committee numbers - there are economies of scale in having say twice as many people actively involved in running a club with twice the members. Examples would be finding marshals for big relay events and many other club jobs which are the same size regardless of the number of runners.
* The locations and catchment areas of the club are similar - both North Dunedin only 3 km apart.
* Both clubs have good participation from families, i.e. kids and parents running/involved
* With more people in one club, the various skill sets can be used to maximise the clubs’ performance in all areas.

Cons:

* Life members of both clubs might lose some of their standing/status
* While some club events could remain, some of Leith's or Hill City's own events might be lost due to problems with fitting everything in the calendar.
* Sense of the individual histories of each club could be lost
* The level of local competition between clubs could reduce as a result of the merger - especially in children's and masters men grades
* Merging committees could present difficulties - getting used to new roles/different ways of doing things.
