Leith Report & Results

Leith competed in the Lovelock Relays on Saturday with the Masters teams winning their races. The Master Men's team of Alan Funnell, Richard Hendry, David Rush, Andrew Lonie, John Bayne and Glen Ferguson won its grade with Lonie (4:30) achieving third fastest Master Men's time. Although the winning margin over Ariki was only about 30 seconds, the Leith team seemed to be running within itself. Well done guys!

The Master Women's team of Jan Craig, Jill Alexander, Tracey Bransgrove and Sue Cuthbert also won its grade. Cuthbert (5:16) achieved fastest Master Women's time. Sue Cuthbert put in a magnificent last four laps of the circular track to overhaul Caversham and help the team to earn a well-deserved but nail-biting win. A great team effort from this team.

The Leith Senior Women's team of Kirsty Morris, Sue Cuthbert, Megan Balchin and Sarah Thomas performed well finishing 4th. Kirsty Morris (4.53) was the fastest Women's runner and running the first lap, it looked like Leith may cause and upset. Sue Cuthbert continued the pace but in the end the overall strength of Hill City proved too much for Leith. A good effort indeed from an honest hardworking team.

The Leith Boys 12 & Under team achieved a third place finish. Well done guys! And well done to all the other Leith teams who all did Leith proud on the day.

Other teams in action were the Leith Senior Men's team (7th), Leith MM2 (4th), Leith SM2 (4th), Leith SW3 (4th), Typical Leith (7th), Leith Girls (10th), Leith Blue (13th), Leith White (14th),

Thanks to all those who helped organise the teams and the Athletics Otago and University officials for all their help in making this a great day for running. We already can't wait for next year.
