Hughes Memorial Handicap Road Races - Report & Results

Saturday 7 July 2007 - Weather - Sunny but bitterly cold, with a strengthening North Easter

Venue: Corner of Fryatt St and Wickcliffe St (opposite Transfer Station). Start was at the end of the cul-de-sac.

Start Time: From 1.45pm

Race 1: Boys and Girls 12 and Under: 500m

There were only four to contest this race in sunny but cold conditions. Bruce Knox ran well to his (off go) handicap to lead from start to finish. Hayden Funnell finished with the fastest time.

Race 2: Open: 10 000m (out to the Vauxhall Yacht club and back)

Christine Leith held on in the face of a bitterly cold North Easter and the fast finishing Graham Anderson to win the Hughes Memorial 10km Handicap Trophy. Graham Anderson finished a strong second, while Mark O'Donnell overhauled Mr Handicapper "Jim Flynn", over the last 50 metres to finish in third place. Andrew Lonie (34:59) achieved fastest time.
