Report Summary
For the first time in his many decades at the club,
Bill Kenny has won the 10.23km Hughes Memorial Handicap Road Race.
And he did it in style, running away from the field to win by over
4 minutes from second placed newcomer Wanda Middleton and the fast
finishing Marko Draganoff who finished in third place after a fierce
tussle with the fourth placed Dean Delaney. The weather was very
cold but the sun shone throughout and the wind was not blowing too
hard, so the conditions were ideal for some fast times. Jason Palmer
achieved fastest time of 34 minutes 28 seconds.
In the junior 3km race, there was a close tussle between Nicole
Frew (off go) and Claudia Sole (off 4 minutes). Sole overhauled
Frew with just metres to go in the closest finish for some time
to achieve the win.
Bruce Knox was first across the line in the children's 1 km race
winning the B10 grade race. Sebastian Sole who finished second overall
also won the B12 grade race. Third placed Reuben Knox finished second
in the B12 grade. Erin Knox (G12) and Nikita Frew (G10) won their
grades. Fastest time of 4min 32sec went to Sebastian Sole.
Thanks to all the officials who helped stage this event.
