Talk about a day of PBs. Andrew Lonie continued his improvement with a PB of 32:19 to put him within sight of Neale McLanachan who finished a good seventh overall in a strong field and also achieved a PB of 32:09. Conor Delahunty who hasn’t raced many 10km races in his career also did a PB of 33:05 but was a bit disappointed in not breaking the 33 minute barrier in excellent running conditions. His training was curtailed by a stint overseas. Alan Funnell continued his great form from the National Crossies in Stratford, with a 33:29 PB, while Mark O’Donnell attained a PB of 35:45. The surprise package was undoubtedly Grant McDougall who surprised Steve Munro by sailing past him to pip him by 11 seconds. There may have been some more PBs in this grade and this report will be updated as more info is obtained. All in all, a very solid performance from Leith in this competitive grade.

Kirsty Morris had in all probability one of the greatest races in her young career as she finished third in the Open Women race with a PB by over two minutes of 36:09. This was a truly defining performance by this burgeoning talent. Meredith Molloy continued her good form in recent weeks by finishing fifth in this competitive grade almost breaking the 39 minute barrier.

Glen Ferguson set the standard for Leith runners to follow by winning the Veteran Men’s grade and finishing fifth overall in a very strong field in 31:38. David Rush was the next Leith Master Man across the line in 34:57. President Brian Pascoe hampered by injury problems this year which have impacted on his training showed he still has what it takes to run a good 36:37.

Marc Boulle, helped along by a pre-race challenge from Meredith Molloy, managed to bring home the bacon in the Master Men’s grade. Boulle, Dave McLean and Ed Stevens ran themselves into the Athletics Otago Master Men’s Over 50 team for the National Road Champs in Christchurch in two weeks time. Graham Anderson still amazes with his continued improvement after undergoing surgery on both knees last year.
